Bravery beads

These are Ellie’s bravery beads from the hospital. Each bead represents a poke, a prick, a procedure, an accomplishment. Every time we return for a checkup she’ll get another bead as well as for any future procedures such a blood draws. It’s amazing that some kids have several strands of these beads hanging from their hospital beds like Olympic medals.

I’m part of a group that just donated money to help support programs like the beads at Children’s. My brother lost a kidney when he was two, so I knew programs like these are very important (and never covered by insurance). And it became even more obvious when my son was in the hospital last year. Nothing at all like what you’ve just been through with Ellie, of course, but still…perspective.

Thinking about you and glad things are looking up. Your girls are absolutely beautiful, Catherine.
